Door County is such a majestic part of Wisconsin! With over 250 miles of shoreline and five state parks, the natural beauty is overwhelming. There are so many places to explore throughout the county, but Fish Creek is your arts and nature oasis. Whether you want to see some beautiful art, buy a keepsake from your time in Door County or try your hand at creating something beautiful – Fish Creek has plenty of options for you.
Local artists are the main focus at 2ForU Design and Gallery, Art of Door County and Cottage Row Framing and Gallery. 2ForU Design and Gallery has watercolor paintings, prints, photographs and cards from local artists, while Art of Door County features hundreds of different pieces of art by several local artists. Connie Glowacki creates her original watercolor paintings in her gallery, and more than a half dozen local artists are featured at Cottage Row Framing and Gallery in a renovated barn.
If you want to include some jewelry, glass or clay items, sculptures or home furnishings, Fish Creek has two places to check out. J. Jeffrey Taylor Fine Art has contemporary jewelry, art glass, photography and mixed media sculptures. Edgewood Orchard Galleries, a third-generation family owned gallery, has a diverse selection of paintings, sculptures, jewelry, glass, clay, home furnishings and garden accessories.
Specialty works of art like one-of-a-kind wood-fired pottery are designed and priced to be used at TR Pottery. Tony and Renee Gebauer work to create items you can use in your daily life. Please join them on Mondays from 2-3:00pm, June through August, to watch Tony make pots on the wheel. This is a great opportunity to watch him work and to talk to him about his techniques and processes.
If you want to make your own art while visiting Door County, then Fish Creek has you covered! You can try your hand at painting ceramics, metal or glass, or you can try to build something or work on a fine art project. Hands on Art Studio lets you paint ceramics, metals, glassware, birdhouses, wooden shapes, furniture, t-shirts and canvases. You can also learn about welding, glass making and mosaics. If you want to work on improving your skill level, Peninsula School of Art offers 2- to 4-day fine art workshops as well.
If you aren’t in the mood to make something yourself but want to observe and experience art, then Guenzel Gallery at the Peninsula School of Art is the place for you! It’s open year-round to the public with free exhibitions of nationally and internationally recognized artists’ works.
Not all art has to be on a canvas or be a beautiful piece of pottery or jewelry. Home décor is an important part of the visual arts because it is part of our everyday life. Great Northern By Design has everything for your cozy and unique home; from accessories and table linens, to ceramics, rugs, pottery and upholstered furnishings.
We can't wait for you to visit and take part in our vibrant artist community. Make your list of art to explore and plan your trip today!
