Take a moment to breathe in deeply…hold it…hold it...and ahhh (big exhale). We could all use a little more relaxation in our lives, don’t you think? And once winter reaches its peak, we feel the need to start planning our trip for spring break.
Hmm…where should we go, this year? Florida, Alabama, or the Carolinas? After all, these traditional spring break hotspots are packed with sandy beaches, great restaurants, and a variety of resorts.
But the keyword here is packed. Everyone and their mother (literally) will be heading down south again this year. Plane tickets are pricy, the beaches are crowded, and a quiet moment can be hard to find.
What if you could skip all the noisy crowds and still experience many of the same relaxing amenities right in – say – Wisconsin?
Wisconsin!? Yes, Wisconsin.
The truth is, you can enjoy a quiet, laid back, spring getaway in the lovely Door County community of Fish Creek. We truly are your vacation, redefined.
It’s no coincidence that Door County is always at or near the top of the list when it comes to romantic places to visit in Wisconsin. Our scenic peninsula is home to many charming, small towns, each of which provide their own unique setting for couples looking to reconnect.
Our passion for fine art, entertainment, culinary excellence, intoxicating culture, and one-of-a-kind experiences truly sets Fish Creek and our neighboring villages apart. For those looking for a relaxing spring break away, you’ll find there are few better options.
When planning an unforgettable vacation for two, finding the right place to stay is important. That’s why we recommend one of the many cozy accommodations Fish Creek has to offer. Every couple is different, so choose a place to stay that fits your idea of comfort.
For a smaller, more intimate experience, book your spring break at a bed and breakfast, inn, or cottage. For those who’d like a few additional amenities, consider one of our hotels or resorts.
Relax, recharge, and just take the time to enjoy each other’s company. (Full list of lodging options here)
Who doesn’t love sharing a good bottle? If sampling our local wine is on your spring break to-do list, there’s no better place to stop than Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery & Market.
This family-owned hotspot offers complimentary wine and product tastings, along with an array of locally sourced cheeses, bakery items, and gifts. Plus, it’s the ultimate stress relieving atmosphere to take in.
Speaking of wine, another ideal activity for couples (21+) is Adult Night at Hands On Art Studio – an expansive, interactive workshop located inside a refurbished barn setting. All skill levels are welcome.
These one-of-a-kind experiences are held on Friday nights from 6:30-10pm, offering beer, wine, music, and a variety of art forms to try, including metalwork, painting, ceramics, and more.
Trying new things together is a sure fire way to get some sparks flying – especially if you opt for metal working.
If you spend any amount of time in Fish Creek, you can’t help but notice our quaint storefronts and hoppin’ eateries. Boutique clothing stores, art galleries, specialty shops, and home décor retailers can be spotted along every street. (full list here)
Our mouthwatering restaurants are also suitable for breakfast, brunch/lunch, or a romantic evening out. With so many casual options to consider, you and your partner will have your pick of local flavors and “can’t miss” menu items.
Of course there’s still a ton of spring break family fun to be had, as well. That’s why Midwest Living – a regional travel magazine – lists Door County in their Top 12 Family-Favorite Destinations in Wisconsin.
Between outdoor adventure, eye opening attractions, and thoughtful accommodations, Fish Creek might just be the most relaxing destination you’ll visit as a family.
Where should you start? How about booking your stay at one of Fish Creek’s roomy resorts that feature indoor pools and plenty of amenities? Splash, dunk, and glide through the water, kick back in a lounge chair, or soak in a hot tub – you choose!
We recommend these great places to stay:
Ahoy, mateys! Entertaining and interesting for visitors young and old, the Door County Maritime Museum offers a variety of unique experiences to enjoy.
Explore Door County’s storied seafaring past up close and personal through a series of videos and exhibits on display throughout their nearby Sturgeon Bay location, take a look through a working periscope, and even tour a floating museum on the tugboat, John Purves.
The kids will be flooded with knowledge and intrigue, and you will too!
Although there’s plenty of fun to be found indoors, you won’t want to miss taking in the fresh air and gorgeous landscapes near Fish Creek.
Embark on a family hike or bike ride through Peninsula State Park, and explore the site of the historic Eagle Bluff Lighthouse with a spring stroll through the woods.
Taking a leisurely drive though the park, while stopping to appreciate some incredible scenic vistas along the Niagara Escarpment can also prove very rewarding.
Will there be a few picky eaters on spring break with you this year? The more, the merrier!
Fish Creek offers terrific local eateries with menus that are both kid and diet friendly. Satisfy your cravings with stone fired pizza, a fish boil, supper club specials, and/or tasty desserts are all on the table as option – just to name a few.
