Comprised of eight charming and distinct wineries, the Door County Wine Trail has offered a new and exciting way to explore the peninsula to travelers and wine connoisseurs since its formation in 2005.
Traditionally, visitors simply settled on one or two vineyards for sampling Door County’s trademark cherry, apple, and cold-resistant estate wines.
But when navigating the wine trail, you can discover them all and sample the full variety of reds, whites, sparkling, and specialty blends our local vintners have to offer.
Did you know the Door Peninsula is the most concentrated grape growing region in Wisconsin? It’s true, and our state’s wine industry continues to grow and evolve on an annual basis.
The Door County Wine Trail is at the forefront of Midwest wine production. Each local winery offers something unique and compelling to travelers looking to pop a cork and clink their glasses.
Sip, swirl, and savor the elegant flavors, and be sure to try something new! You’ll find much more than delicious libations on the trail as many producers have a wide selection of novelty food, gift items, and apparel for purchase as well.
If you only have time for a single wine tasting, you obviously want to stop at the best. Fortunately, one of Door County’s finest wineries resides right here in Fish Creek!
Hand picking fresh fruit on their family farm since 1955, the Lautenbach family knows what it takes to grow high quality cherries, apples, grapes, raspberries, and pears.
That’s why, in 1975, the family opened a spacious farm market to share their distinct produce with the world, and – just ten years later – Orchard Country Winery was born in their restored dairy barn.
As the northernmost point on the Door County Wine Trail, Lautenbach’s continues to feature a homegrown tradition. Wine tasting is complimentary and includes six tasters carefully selected from a diverse list of over 30 varieties grown on-site – some of which are award-winning!
Looking for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their winemaking process from vine to pour? Guided walking tours of Orchard Country Winery are offered from May to October and grant you access to their orchards, vineyards, and production area.
An exclusive private tasting follows the tour, where you’re encouraged to sample a myriad of wine flavors from a keepsake wine glass to commemorate your experience.
If you’ve been to Orchard Country Winery before, we recommend a return trip as different seasons bring new opportunities to try new assortments of their exceptional fruit produce.
Pick your own cherries in mid to late July or gather a bushel of apples from mid-September to mid-October. Lautenbach’s has plenty to offer all year long – making it a great place to come back to time and time again.
No season is more magical than autumn! Surrounded by smoky breezes and falling golden leaves, fall is the perfect time to embark on a cozy getaway with your romantic partner or closest friends.
So why not spend a weekend – or even a day – taking in the sights, tastes, and aromas of Door County’s best wineries?
